Course Content
Kids First is an educational workshop that combines knowledge from research, family education and therapy.  This 2-hour workshop helps parents understand the impact of divorce on their children and provides concrete actions that parents can take to help their children.  Kids First is not a counseling session, but rather focuses on "what to do" and "how to help" children during and after divorce.  The program content includes the following topic areas:
  • Communication Guidelines:  Provides information about what your children want and need to know; discussion of divorce as a process; and the grief process as it relates to both parents and children.
  • Children's Reactions to Divorce:  Provides information about children's reactions and expected behavioral changes based upon their ages and developmental stages.
  • Effective Co-Parenting:  Provides information about how to minimize conflict within parental relationship post-divorce.
